I followed all the steps and there was no change when I flattened the image...what might have gone wrong?

I had to re-install my GIMP and everything on it, and I was so glad I was able to find this again! I feel like I used it all the time.

your tutorial makes absolutely no sense to me. :(
i added three visible layers by going to layer at the top and clicking new from layer three times. so i am not sure how i get to those three layers to edit them with the colors like your suggest in your step three.

If it makes it any easier to you, add a new layer -> fill it with the first color, change the opacity etc and then move on to the second layer & color.
